Hi guys

I've not kept up to date with gfx cards over the last few years so my knowledge isn't the best so would like some help. This is my current pc

AMD FX6200 6core 3.8
8gig Ram 1866
800watt PSW
Standard Gigabyte 970A-DS3 mobo
Nvidia 9600GSO 512mb <-------------------------what i want to upgrade
Monitor Samsung 22inch HD

Now i had my eye on the 660ti 2gb, but my friend keeps telling me to spend an extra 20 quid for the 3gb version? I'm not into multi screening and my screen isn't the biggest so would i need an extra gig memory in a gfx card?

many thanks
dave

if its only a small difference i would just get the 3gb. 3gb is basically for the highest resolution available above 1920x1080 and multiple screens to play on the highest settings.

i would look at the 7950 i think its the same price and its 3gb

The thing is both cards would be a big improvement over what you got so you can really go wrong. Its ok to go with the cheaper of the two cards but if they are the same price or very close I would go with the 7950.

3GB of memory for a GTX660Ti is absolutely useless becuase the 192-bit bandwidth will cripple it before it gets even close to running out of memory.

If you need 3GB for some reason(which you probably don't), get a 7950, not only 3GB built in, it also has a 384-bit bus so it can efficiently and quickly utilize that memory.

this sounds like deja vu all over again............ @1600 res, more than 1gig is needed. learned that along time ago.
