Is there any useful added protection added by using RAID 1 on an SSD boot drive?

If no, what's a better way to ensure that I don't have to reinstall everything in case of failure? How often do standard SSDs go bad?

I set up my two 256 GB Samsing Pros in RAID 0 and the 2 TB SSHDs in RAID 1.... after 3 months I broke both the arrays.

Here's an option I think makes more sense.

1. Install Windows to say a 120 GB SSD (C:\) ... do all the windows updates / driver installs
2. Create a 120 GB Partition on a 2 TB SSHD (D:\)
3. Make rest of SSHD E:\
4. Install all your Programs and Stuff on E:\
5. Image the SSD to the 120 GB partition on D:\
6. Disconnect the SSD Data cable
7. Reboot to the OS on the 120 GB partition on the SSHD
8. Change the Letter designation of the rest of the SSHD to E:\ in Disk Manager.

Now if your SSDS drops dead, you will simply auto boot to the 120 GB partition on the SSHD and remain fully functional. When the new SSD arrives, just put it back in and copy the image back from the 120 GB partition on the SSD
