Any point to jump on os / dx11?

I'd do it (if I had the money and lived there) because I'll be looking at a new build early next year and I'll sell my current box complete to partially pay for it, so, of course I will need a new OS then.
Of course, I live in the UK and therefore Europe, so am ignored by Microsoft, EVGA, BFG...

You could partition, and then move everything you want to keep onto the new partition, and then just blow-out the OS portion in the update.

Some of your apps might need re-installing but most should be fine.

Edit: Of course it would be a good idea to back-up first.

windows 7 is probably the best upgrade you can do for your system, with that price at least. ive had the beta since it came out (rc1 right now) and the difference between it and vista is amazing! my fps shot up in all my games. also windows 7 has a lot more than just how it uses your hardware, with all the functionality, there are a lot of new features too. i loved vista, i never had any problems with it (after i upgraded from 512mb of ram lol) that other people became hardcore haters for, but idk why, dxdiag shows that im running directx 11 on my 4850... so it does something now check dxdiag in vista.

no you can either upgrade from vista or do a clean install. if you were running xp you would have to do a clean install since it can only be upgraded from vista. upgrading keeps everything the same, just adds to it. also, even if you do a clean install, it will automatically dump you users, program files, and windows folders into a folder called windows.old at the root of your hardrive. windows 7 is however NOT upgradeable from the betas

I read somewhere today that if you live in Europe you won't be able to do an "upgrade' because of the EU lawsuit ruling over Microsoft.

Having said that, I will have 2 DX11 video cards running in XFIRE before I build a DX11 machine.

These rumours come around every time the EU slaps M$. I have no doubt there will be certain aspects of the release that the EU will say 'non' to, then they will both work out something that is ok. Us poor EU citizens will struggle on without having the 'optimal' version of Windows I'm sure. 😉

Im sure that EU and UK users will be catered for at some point. Im not that bothered about getting it as soon as its released as the RC overlaps the release date anyway. Im also interested to see some DX11 software using DX11 hardware reviews before i decide on what to get.
