I currently have a ryzen 7 1700 and a 1070 but im going to be upgrading to a 1080ti, should I get a higher wattage psu? I currently have a 500w

Yes, go for a 650+ due to 8 core/16 threads, potential OCing too.
Seasonic Focus Plus, EVGA supernova G2/G3, Corsair Rmx. If on a budget, Corsair TXm is pretty good choice.
