Hello, I'll try to make this as short as possible, I am 15 years old and I get 146 US Dollars monthly from my parents. And my computer basically sucks for gaming so I want to upgrade my computer. Since I only get 146 Dollars monthly, I can only upgrade one part every month, if I don't save the money. My PC specs looks like this now:
- Intel Core i3 - 2120 @ 3.30GHz
- 1 x 4 GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz
- AMD HD 5450 @ 512MB
- FUJITSU D2990-A1 MotherBoard and Intel Sandy Bridge Chipset.
- 300 Watt PowerSupply
Do you have any ideas for what parts I should upgrade first, and to what, I would like to have a computer that can play for example GTA 5 and Fallout 4 in pretty high resolution and frame rate, would really appreciate it if you could come with any ideas for new parts. Thanks :)

Hi Alex,

I know being patient is a pain sometimes but if you could save for just 4 months, you would have enough to get a decent start on an upgradeable build.

That build would last you for years. That said, if you spend money monthly, you could for example, buy the PSU this month, and use it. I wouldnt buy the RAM because in 4 months you could be in a new build with DDR4. If you buy it now, it would not work with a Skylake build which is what you want as the basis of your new build. My 2 cents, I wish you luck whatever your choice.

Thanks, what about the motherboard and the processor? Because my motherboard doesn't support higher than the 2nd generation of the i3, i5 and i7. Can I game with my 2nd generation i3 as long as my RAM and GPU is good?

if your parents are giving you $146 monthly, try saving it for a year. you'll have over $1,700 by the end. and the $1,700 will actually still be worth at least $1,699 - guaranteed! your computer will tank in value before you even buy the parts.

after 3-4 years, you'd have enough to buy a (used) car - and pay for it IN CASH. or you could learn how to invest it and make a few bucks extra.

or just be a kid and blow it all on crap.

for an immediate change get another stick of RAM so you have 8 GB. You didn't say what kind of C drive you have, I'm guessing an HDD. So getting an SSD after that will give you a nice general performance increase, though not necessarily a gaming increase. Get a good SSD too so you can just carry it forward to any future PC.

After that just save the money and wait till you can do a complete new build. I'd aim for a least a $1,000. Going piecemeal won't get you very far.
