Hello All, I have a laptop with the NVIDIA Quadro M2000M 4GB graphics card and 3840x2160 screen. I am in the procerss of purchasing a linux workstation with 4 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB cards. I am looking into buying a dual monitor solution (4k res) for the linux workstation, that I can share with the Laptop. So, when I am working on the Laptop I can switch the dual monitors to display an extended desktop from the Laptop. And, when I move over to the linux box, I can easily switch over the dual monitors to display the linux desktop. Is this possible? If yes, what adapters/hubs etc I need to buy to make this happen? Thanks.

You may not actually need a KVM to do this. But Luminary's solution is perfectly valid and the keyboard/mouse sharing is a definite bonus.

If you have monitors that accept multiple inputs you can just plug in the desktop and the laptop, then switch the inputs through the OSD. Some monitors allow you to just press a single button to switch between inputs. I used to do this with a PS3 where it had an HDMI output and my PC was using DVI at the time. Just hit the toggle button on the monitor whenever I felt like playing the PS3.
Sounds like a KVM switch would work for this.

Your workstation would be on one set of cables running to the KVM, and you could have a 2nd set ready to plugin to your laptop. The added bonus of this would be that you could also share a keyboard and mouse over the KVM, so when you connected your laptop it would look and feel like you were working on a desktop.

Here's an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817402022&cm_re=kvm_dual_monitor-_-17-402-022-_-Product

**Be sure if you want to shop around some more that you look for KVM switches that have Dual Monitor Support!**
