I ordered some cheapo 20 dollar 1 TB flash drive from Amazon. It seems bogus because I loaded it up with a series of RAR files. Each file was broken down in 4.7 gig and I tried to put 30 parts in there. One time it stopped at the 12th RAR file. Then I put it in NTFS from Xfat and it somehow made it to 12 the part 13 was corrupted. It took a day just to load 25 parts. Speed was down to 2.5bps. I think it's a 64 gig storage and doesn't report errors during writing to the op system. Since Windows relies on the flash drive to tell it to request a resend on something that didn't take, I think it's not reporting errors. You gotta watch what you get and I think this is as bogus as can be. I claimed to have writted 25 parts, each with 4.7 gigs yet it knows nothing of the parts above 13. Like it stores the files written but there was no space to write them. What's a decent brand guys?

Fake drives are everywhere - https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...nal-portable-ssd-usb-drives-are-fake.3773032/

Often they have controllers that lie to windows about how much space they have and then once they full they just overwrite the info. Often they just have a 64gb sdcard inside.

this is real - https://www.westerndigital.com/en-a...drive-luxe-usb-3-1-type-c?sku=SDDDC4-032G-G46

Real ones aren't that cheap yet.

I don't think Samsung make one bigger than 256gb

Thanks, I'm so tired of bogus stuff being sold in this country. Obviously Amazon doesn't qa anything. I doubt New Egg is any better as I have seen the sell bogus transistors. Seems the counterfeit game is getting worse. Maybe I'll write a big negative review on this. Supposedly 6000 people have purchased these. I'll bet most of them have no idea they got ripped and never will know.

I'd bet most of that "6,000" is fake reviews.

Thanks, I'm curious which storage type is best for long term storage. Any idea how long the data can be held in the good one's?

i'm from Singapore.........is it common for micro SD cards to cost more than flashdrives ?.....for the same capacity, that's the case here......
Irrelevancies.
Different markets have different price points.

Different formats have vastly different use cases.

microSD - phone, little UAV, dashcam.

flashdrive - sneakernet devices. Some people, in advisably, use them as backup devices.

latest trick is to use chatgpt to write the reviews. They used to also steal reviews for other products... but AI made it easy.

I try to only buy from actual stores. Not just websites. So far every USB drive I have bought has been real. I have only bought 3 online though. And that was me being lazy as the company does have shops in my city. I see many of the online retailers as suspect. Some are too big to be able to police their sellers.

Best idea is look for the product on makers website. If you can find it here, its probably real. Also helps to stick to brands you know.
1tb drives cost over $200 still here so if the price looks too good to be true, its probably fake.
Knowing actual cost of things and if they even exist can help protect from scammers.

Thanks, I got a Samsung 256 and it works great. It's fast too, I bought the Samsung FIT. It's very small.

My Nikon D500 uses µSD. But Also has a XQD slot for shooting 4k video. µSD and SD I would never trust either for long term storage.
Looks nice don't it. I think mine was 25 dollars, hope it lasts. Thanks again
Sandisk..
