Hello, I am quite unsure if this build will work out or not. I've spent some time searching for the right parts, but still I'm quite unsure. I am plan to use this for gaming (Battlefield, Crysis, Dota, etc.) and schoolwork.

Here's what I've picked:

Mouse: Gigabyte GM-M6900 Wired Optical Mouse (£16.72 @ CCL Computers)
Headphones: SteelSeries Flux Headset (£29.63 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £1166.55

GPU: I am planning to wait for non-reference 290X
CPU: Planning to OC to 4 GhZ. Pretty much stock 8350 but saving some money.
RAM: 12GB for future-proof and it has a great price and speed.

Yes, get Corsair Vengeance ProDDR3-1866MHz RAM, its bettter and cheaper than patriot viper II DDR3-2000. Plus 12GB of RAM usually doesn't work. Other than that, its a great build for the price, but if you can, try an AMD FX-8350 for better overclocking.

Thanks for your reply, I prefer RAM over 8GB but 16 GB would be too expensive and 8 GB feels like it's not enough for me. I am planning mild overclock the CPU. Hopefully the non-reference 290X won't be too expensive as I'm trying to keep it under £1200 / $1900.

You will need to OC the CPU to avoid bottleneck. That's nothing the Noctua can't handle :) The GTX 680 is much better than the r9 280x. The motherboard, although £56, is suitable and will be fine. 8GB of ripjaws memory will be perfect for gaming, 12 is just too much at this time. Better SSD than the sansdisk and i've not included a hdd because i think unless you REALLY need it, don't get it. Stick with 120gb and wait and see if you do. 600W PSU is more than enough at the moment but if you decide to upgrade the card in the future, it will still suffice. Though you may need to upgrade the CPU too. But at the moment, this system would last a good 2 or so years and after that time you may want to change the mobo and get a different cpu.

Just food for thought.
