This is a long shot seeing as I couldn't find anything about this anywhere, but I was hoping you guys here at Tom's Hardware could help. My problem is that any time I start a download manager I disconnect and take out anybody on our router as well. What's going on here? If you need more info about anything I'm willing to provide it.

I forgot to mention, I've tried multiple managers such as Bitcomet, Utorrent, Flashget, FIDM and IDM.

I had a router that did this, we usually have 6 and sometimes 8 ppl in our house and everyone has a device using wifi. Our router would disconnect and or crash or get flakey (Dlink DIR-655). It couldn't handle the number of connections, and it sounds like what is going on with you. Sounds like it's just not able to manage keeping all those connections going.

I bought an ASUS black diamond and that fixed the problem. That router died so I bought a Netgear wndr4300 and it works even better. Also FYI, I recently read that routers just die after a few years because the radio has to handle a lot of power all the time and that causes them to have short lives. I think a new router would fix you up.

We have less people in our house now than ever, and it just started up when I upgraded my windows. I'm running a 1 year old router, I don't remember which model, but it shouldn't be the router that's the problem. Its literally only caused by me starting up a download manager.

Your windows shouldn't screw everyone else over unless you have malware or something that is flooding the network with packets or open connections. Other than that what I said above will hopefully help you out. Hope this helps :)
