Any Ubuntu installation help

I have downloaded Ubuntu 14.04 and 12.04 and have tried to install each of them using a virtual drive. Ubuntu goes on my machine but when it boots, I get a message saying "no live file system found" What gives? and What is "Wubildr

What do you mean by a virtual drive? Did you use a virtual machine program like VMWare or Virtualbox?

I wouldn't recommend using Wubi. It has problems.

Try VirtualBox if you don't want to use a partition.

Okay, I have downloaded and installed virtualbox along with documentation. I must admit, I am a newbie outside of web surfing, but I am trying to learn new applications and I really want to try Ubuntu. So what do I do next with virtualbox in relation to downloading,installing and running Ubuntu. If it helps I am trying to run Ubuntu on a dual core intel platform running Vista 64 bit
