Any way to make old hard drive work in new pc?

My laptop died and instead of looking to repair. I went ahead and got a tower. I was hoping to use my old hdd with its win 7 install. However it refuses to boot. Now I'm aware that it's due to the new mb and not having the right drivers. Is there anyway to update the drivers. or is a new install of windows required? Thanks for your help.

New install.
Either it works or it doesn't. Even if it 'works', you may have lingering issues.

Then you get into the licensing problem.
