BACKGROUND:
Ok, like an idiot when I bootcamped windows 8 on my macbook I made the partition WAAAYYY too small, as such I am chronically out of space (I'm talking mbs or less). I thought the small partition wouldn't be a problem because I keep everything on an external, but I didn't factor in how many files had to be save on the C drive...

THE PROBLEM:
Well as such, I can't download any files even to my external HDD, they fail because there isn't enough room on the C drive for the temp file. MY question is, is there anyway to make it save those temp files on the external so that I can download files there where there is ample free space?

NOTE:
Reformatting a larger partition really isn't an option since my macbook model doesn't technically support windows 8 and it took me hours and a lot of luck to get it working ghetto-style with windows 7 drivers lol. I don't want to chance it working again.

Thanks

excuse me i forgot to tell you that you need to do these steps for firefox before steps above
Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Environment Variables>TEMP>Edit, and change to the new temp folder you made off the root of system drive. (example: C:\temp) Do the same for the "TMP" (both TEMP and TMP point to the same temp folder you made). Click Ok.
Now your temp folder is easily accessible and can be viewed/purged as you see fit.
what kind of software are you using to download your files. if it's IDM you could go in the way bellow:
1-Downloads>Options>Save to>Temporary direction>Brows - - and you could change the path to were ever you want. in fact i used this way to improve my merging speed in IDM by changing this path to an SSD drive so that merging operation could go faster.
in firefox you could go this way:
1-Open firefox
2-type about:config in the address bar
3-Promise that you'll be careful
4-Right click anywhere in the browser and goto 'New' and select 'New String' from the Menu.
5-Enter browser.cache.disk.parent_directory as the preference name
6-Enter the path to the new cache location, example: d:\firefox_temp.

at the end first you should tell me the name of your download software so i could tell you more specific.

I use firefox as my browser. I'm just talking about files downloaded directly through firefox, like games from gog (without using their downloader). I'll go try your firefox suggestion right quick.

EDIT:
OK, I did what you suggested but I still got the following msg when I tried downloading

There is not enough room on the disk to save C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Temp\AquhS2s+.exe.part.

Remove unnecessary files from the disk and try again, or try saving in a different location.

Have you tried cutting down the size of your Win 8 installation?

Disable hibernate and remove the hibernate file.

Assuming you have plenty of RAM, change the pagefile type to custom, and set its minimum size to something small like 128 MB. I can still grow, but only when you need it. It won't be taking up 4 or 8 GB all the time.

After you've installed updates and are sure the system still works, delete the uninstall files for the updates. In Explorer, right-click the C: drive and select properties. Click the disk cleanup button. Then click the clean up system files button. Note: Once you do this, it is impossible to uninstall the updates, so make damn sure your system works and is stable before doing this.

Thanks Solandri, I might give a few of those a shot, but I'd still like a permanent fix of being able to move the directory. That paging file might give me enough space not to have to worry for a while though. I'm afraid even that will fill up eventually though and then I'll be back to square one.

Oh actually nm, what do you mean plenty of ram? I think this mac has 4gb.
