Anyone ever played a Stern Orbitor?

Very addictive when you actually learn HOW to play it.

not bad, it is fun.
kind of wild how the ball can go around the back side of the flippers and
come back it to play.
stays around the magnets a lot.
not one of my favs.
the drain hole looks a bit reamed out on that one.
It's not a game I would be after personally.

I agree !
I also have one and like it a lot.
You have to learn how to play it, most people play it like a regular
game, shoot straight at what they aim, shoot towards the middle, and
then the ball does not get past the spinning bumpers and gameplay
becomes frustrating.
Learn to use the curved playfield to your advantage.. and still be
amazed by the weird things the ball does because it has a lot of spin
(like laying still for a moment and then start to roll upwards).

I found it interesting to play. Keep in mind I played it when it was
released. (trying to not show my age).

So, sure it was different. Keep in mind, machines were mostly one
level, no speech, single ball machines back then.

I am sure someone growing up on the DMD's and playing one of these at
one of the shows will not "get" the machine.

It was different and certainly worth one of my quarters back then. Of
course back then, we never qualified a machine as good or bad based
upon our desire to "own" it which is what goes on a lot today.

IMHO, one of the worst games ever designed in the history of pinball.
In fact, after production of this game, Stern got out of pinball production
for nearly 17 years.

Going by the other replies, I guess you'd have to be crazy to own one.
Either that, or you'd have to be crazy to own one. Otherwise, you'd
have to be crazy to own one. Then again, you'd probably have to be
crazy to own one. Of course, you'd also have to be crazy to own one.

Anyway, I own one, and always get a lot of appreciative comments for
bringing mine to shows.

It's not what I'ld recommend for the home buyer, mostly because the ball
can spend so much time just floating around the playfield, not really
doing anything. Once you figure out the dynamics of the ball movement,
you lose the "how do I do anything" feeling, but even so, there's a lot
of dead time with the ball.

I, personally, like both.

As someone said, Orbiter-1 is definitely a game that you have to learn
how to play. If you try to play it like a normal pin, you'll get
frustrated and/or bored. Once you learn the physics involved, it
becomes an addictive game as you make more and more "seemingly
impossible" shots.

Likewise, once you master the "turn the bars to go left, turn the bars
to go right" on a Wave Runner, you've just scratched the surface. Take
a look at this (12 megs):

Obviously, those guys aren't having any fun at all...

I think if you are experiencing this, you need to crank up the back
levelers a little bit. Of course, the curved playfield makes leveling
and pitch measurement difficult, unless you measure off the playfield
glass, but the game can be made faster (with little or no "floating")
the same way as any other game...crank up the back feet!
