Anyone have any experience sending in an Acer monitor for out of warranty repair?

I just bought an Acer Predator XB1 XB271HU that has a screen that was cracked during shipping for $100. I'm guessing it's not under warranty so I called in to try to get a quote for how much it would cost to fix, but they needed the serial number to check the warranty status before they could help me at all so now I have to wait until I get the monitor in the mail.

I've never sent a monitor in for out of warranty repair before as I've been very lucky so I'm not sure what I'm looking at for a repair bill especially for such a high end monitor. I've had my eye on this display for a long time so I took a chance here.

Any idea how much something like this costs? I would be happy if the total cost of this is below refurbished price.

Anyone have any experience in this department?

If it's no longer under warranty you're better off buying a new monitor.

What I find odd is that where did you find a XB271HU for $100, that just screams broken, unless you ment that you knew it was broken and you bought it anyways hoping to repair it for less than a refurb?

If you're lucky, they just happen to have a spare part. You should ask them yourself by using this live chat: https://acer.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch

Good luck!

I bought it from a well known member of another forum. It was listed as having a screen that was cracked during shipping. I bought it because I was hoping to send it in for repair. I've tried contacting acer, but they can't do anything without entering a serial number which I don't have because I didn't receive the monitor yet. That's why I posted here.

I know I took a chance buying, but I would be happy if I could get it repaired and have the total cost be less than a refurbished one.

Depends on what damaged it is, not visible just looking at it. There are several thin layers behind the glass, before finally getting to the LED's. If all of it is broken, then that pretty much makes the whole monitor a monitor, apart from GSync and the ULMB feature, which is about a ~ $200 or so premium, maybe $150.

So I called Acer and they told me that they don't do LCD replacements on this monitor. Why they wouldn't carry replacement LCD's for their $700 flagship monitor is beyond me.. plus this monitor is under warranty until December 2018. Not that I was expecting to get it done for free, but I would have at least imagined that since it is so new they could do something to help replace it. This was their advice: "You are going to have to buy another one."

So they gave me the number for some third party repair place who said they will call me back once they see if they have that panel available.

I opened up the monitor and found the part number for the LCD panel to be m270dan02.6.

I've searched all over the internet and called a ton of places and no one has the m270dan02.6 LCD panel available.

This just became a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.
