I recently created some threads concerning the cx500, so if you have valuable information but no experience, please post your answers in those threads. I would like this to be a thread for those that have had experience only. (of course if you just want to ask something no experience needed lol)

So my question is how reliable is it? do you know if it will work well for a low budget gaming pc? and how long have you had it?

Just letting you know mods dont like it when multiple threads are made about the same topic for future reference.

On the topic at hand, I had a CX500 for about 6 months. It was a great PSU during that time, until it failed. Faulty capacitors. I still endorse their products however. Corsair replaced it within the week (I was gone at E3 so I bought this TR2 while I was there) and now its sitting in the box, wrapped, in my room.

Its a good entry level, but its capacitors could be better. Seasonic, XFX, Antec, Corsair (AX) are all great power supplies to aim for.

I had a cx600 for about 6 months, mine did not fail like the person above me and worked perfectly. However that being said I did upgrade to a better built psu by corsair after a few friends of mine had problems with them. The two friends who had problems had the same as the person above and agin corsair was outstanding in getting the problem fixed.

so for you guys when the cx500 or cx600 stopped working, did it damage any other components? I can see how the cheap quality psu can damage other parts when it dies out, however, im wondering if that's also true for these more expensive psus? or do these psus have a fail safe or something like that to prevent other parts from being damaged?

i see ur using thermaltake tr2 700. how is it? how long have u been using it? i looked into that series and was`thinking about getting the 600W one. its still expensive, but its good with the rebate.

also, when u were using cx500, did u push ur psu near its limit? were u gaming a lot? or were u using it moderately?

TR2s are low quality, I use one because it was cheap (only PSU at FRYS in LA under 50 bucks above 600w) and I havent had the money to replace it.
I personally havent had any issues, the cables are a bit long.

I used my CX fairly close to the max. 965 OCed to 4.22, 7750, LEDs and cathodes etc. Heavy gaming etc.

I have had mine for almost 4 months and it has not failed. I have the CX500M PSU. It works fine. It powers my rig just fine.

I guess I should say that occasionally I get this grinding sound from my PC, but I do not know if it is coming from my PSU or not.

Hope this helps.

XFX TS 550 $26 after $25 rebate

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013

I own 4 of these and have 3 of them in my desktops.

I have a CX430 but Corsair has a 1 PSU per product line per year rule on their power supply rebates so I have 4 XFX TS 550's since I know that they are reliable and multiple rebates per year but it is limited to 1 PSU rebate per household per promotional period.

To me there is no difference between a Corsair CX and a XFX TS since I don't overclock anything but for people who overclock they are better off going with a XFX. I just can't wait till next year to be eligible for another rebate.

It all comes down to 3 year warranty of a Corsair CX and 5 year warranty of the XFX TS since they were made by different people (Channel Well for Corsair CX and Seasonic for XFX)

It is a just a quality difference in terms of production and capacitors used. However it is a great thing that Corsair has the CX line and EVGA has Bronze line (ex. 500B, 600B) so that unsuspecting power supplies buyers will still get a better power supply than if they were to buy from other brands at the lower starting price point.
