Yeah.. just like playstation 2 was going to be a $150 supercomputer rivaling Nec's earthsimulator. I guess that claim also had to be taken with a grain of salt.

>and push intel and amd to release their 06-07 stuff out now

Duh.. sure, intel and amd are both ready to roll out their 2007 products today.

Yeah that’s slightly old news...(3 weeks or so). Its only that fast if you combine 3 or 4 processors in parallel(in the future more I assume). Amd and Intel shouldn't be worried at this stage in the game. To take advantage of the cell processors you have to write the code so its distributed over the multiple cells. Now if they somehow figure out a way to automatically do load balancing(hardware wise) that would be awesome. The cell processor idea is definitely something to keep your eye on down the road.

I think I'm finally grasping the relationship between the word hype and the word hyper...

Hey, so I hear there's this RAM that's supposed to be non-volatile and ten times faster than anything in PCs today, and it fits onto the head of a pin, and costs only pennies to make. It's going to revolutionize the world!

And the Nintendo 64's graphics are so realistic that we won't even need movies anymore because interactive games are going to replace them.

Yeah. Yeah. And there's this car that runs on water, man. On water!

Okay guys as far as the news goes sonys cell chip is suppose to be what runs there new playstation 3 video game system. I don't believe it's for the computer market. As some of you may or may not know Most of the video game systems will be releasing there new systems, ps3, xbox2, nentindo something, i think the beging of 2006, as of last heard. I wonder if they'll be 256 bit systems since usually when they come out with a new system they double the bits. 8(nen) , 16(snes), 32(ps1), 64(nentindo), 128(ps2) 256(???).

Technically, the snes was an 8-bit console, with a pile of Extra chips to handle specialised gfx/sound manipulation stuff.

I think that technically the bitness more referred to the color depth more than anything. :\

And even that's kind of a joke when you consider Sega's 16 and 32-bit systems were more or less just multi-processor 8-bit systems. **LOL**

I just wish that the Sega Nomad had caught on...

Not familiar with that one.... perhaps it had a different name over here? (UK). Many consoles did.

It wasn't exactly a console. It was a 6-button handheld version of the Sega Genesis. It played nearly every game that a Genesis could (using the same Genesis carts and all), but on a little color screen in the palm of your hand. :) It was great. Okay, so it took a million AA batteries to run and only ran for a couple of hours on them, and so it was huge compared to a GBA, but it still way kicked the pants off of a GBC. Plus it had a TV/audio cable port, a second controller port, and an AC port for hooking it up like a console.

For its time, the Sega Nomad rocked.

sony did in fact hint that they might use this for pc`s
they own a computer sub-division
also remember microsoft created the x-box because they were afraid they would lose the computer market to playstation 2
due to its ability to play on-line
(they thought this would translate into web surfing i guess, and that still might happen with xbox 2 and ps3)

I've seen more from IBM talking about some kind of on-demand distributed computing server concept than I have from Sony talking about competing in the desktop market. Do you even have any links to back up your words?

Where do you even get this $#!7? Do you even have anything vaguely resembling a fact to support this? What in the world are you smoking and where can I buy some?

and not to harp but
most people own computers to go on-line and write papers
the playstation played games (the third reason people owned pc`s) and bill gates saw the ps2 as a threat to the pc market for the fact that it had built in connectivity
- the only thing it can`t do is write papers

hello i know there are people that will allways have pc`s
but the majority of people might not
gates was afraid he would have no one to sell his OS to
