Hi:)

A friend of mine is looking to upgrade his computer and asked me about a PSU.
Before anyone says get an XFX, Corsair, Antec or Seasonic PSU my friend won't have any of those.
He's had a bad experience with XFX before with 2 dead units in a month and they were made by Seasonic. I like my Seasonic and feel he may have just been unlucky but he's looking for a new make.
The one he's interested in is the SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply.
I have included the link to the shop so you can look at it.

Has anyone had one of these makes of PSU before?
What do you think the quality will be like?
Do you think it's a good PSU?
Any other suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated:)

Super Flower has made a name for themselves over the last few years. They are one of the few companies putting out competition for Seasonic. The Golden Green platform is very good and he should have no problems with it.
I have done some research myself and the efficiency seems very good to me.

Transform Efficiency: on 20% 50% 100% loading, with 88.77% 92.82% 88.61% Transform Efficiency

In fact it is nearly the same as my seasonic:ouch:

Does anyone have any input?

Thank you very much for your reply:)
I have looked into the PSU myself and thought it looked pretty good but just wanted to make sure as it's not a brand i have seen recommended here before.

Most Super Flower units are not sold under the Super Flower brand. They are the OEM for other brands like the really good EVGA and Kingwin units and the excellent Rosewill Capstone and Tachyon series. Other brands as well.

Seems like you really know your stuff. It's only in the last 2 years i've started using good quality PSU's and i love my platinum rated seasonic but i would of bought the SuperFlower Golden Green if i knew they were so good as it's a lot cheaper than mine.

It's only in the last 2 years or so they have really turned up the quality and become competitive. Voltage regulation, ripple and noise and even soldering and build quality is right up there with Seasonic. That being said Seasonic is still the best overall. They just don't put out anything but top quality products in every line they make. Super Flower and Flextronics ( Corsair AXi series ) can be as good as Seasonic. I am about to upgrade my almost 7 year old Corsair 750TX and I will be getting a Seasonic Platinum personally but I have no problem recommending Super Flower made units even for the highest end builds.

Your mistaken there, Anort3. Superflower has been good for at least as long as corsair has been making PSU's. Though they have improved in that time and their footprint in the enthusiast market has become more prominent. They seemed to gain momentum when they OEM'd the Rosewill Capstone series.

Corsair doesn't make power supplies they rebrand them. Super Flower has also never been a Corsair OEM. I didn't say they weren't good before 2 years ago, I said in the last 2 years they have become competitive with Seasonic.
