Anyone here good with soldering??

So here is the thing, my 45 watt soldering iron does not get hot enough to remove some solder that's on this PS3 motherboard, the kids broke the HDMI jack and there are a few points from the old jack that have solder there still, i need something that gets hotter.. Problem is i can get a PS3 for 100 bucks, is there any good iron kit i can get that would be good for any application of soldering for half that price??

You'll be better off using proper de-solderin gear instead of just depending on enough heat to melt the old stuff. You're running a risk of old solder falling off the iron and shorting something else out. I know - I've been there.

That's not really what i am worried about, like i said i can get a new one cheap, just weighing both options, i do have some de soldering gear, that's why i need a iron that will heat all that copper in order to get the solder out.

I know, it's just that Saga Lout said there's a risk of solder falling off, hence this.

I use a soldering gun over the soldering iron as I have had too many of the irons fall short of getting the job done, the gun I use is a 230/150 pull the trigger half way for 150, all the way for 230.

This link is an updated version and it is 200/300, but the trigger control is variable and gives remarkable control over the heat tip output.

Sometimes you just cannot avoid it, one trick I've used is to heat the solder, then turn the board over really fast and tap the other side to drop off the still molten solder onto a piece of Aluminum foil or something similar, that trick works remarkably well in some situations.

I am so sorry for your loss, when I saw it on the news, you were my first thoughts hoping you were OK!

Loosing a friend to something like this, you will never get over it, you just have to find a way to live with it.

I have lost many friends to accidents, but loosing one to something like this, I really don't have a clue other than the sickening loss we experienced during 9/11, you and all the victims families and friends are in our prayers!
