I thought since I upgraded my computer this fall, I would also buy a mechanical keyboard, because it supposedly was so much better to use for everything. I bought a CM STORM XT brown, which is a keyboard quality mechanical keyboard. But it feel it is a lot more hassle to write without error on my new keyboard. It simply feels like a lot more work. Anyone else who feels this way?

Well in the end you should go with what you like, just because a bunch of people like me like mechanical doesn't mean you are obligated to like it too.
Peripherals are a personal preference more than anything. What suits you, won't suit someone else and vice versa. There are many types of mechanical switches (brown, blue, black, etc) and each of them has its own pros and cons. You might just not be into brown switches, for example. The only way you can be sure is to test the unit yourself before buying, not judging by someone else's experience or reviews. For example, I hate mechanical keyboards. Can't stand them - they are all too loud for me. I went with membrane and I'm perfectly fine with that. Personal preference.

Hey !

Initially when you get the keyboard it is much harder to type, agreed ! But after common use for a while you will find the keyboard much nicer than a standard membrane keyboard, it's just getting used to the different key height and how hard you need to press.

Can`t really to these guy`s opinion wise... Just go with what they said...

I think its also because browns are very different from membrane, as they require less actuation force. the membranes require that you bottom out, which i still do :p But I think its also the layout of the keyboard. The XT brown is extremely compact compared to the sidewinder x4 which has a lot of micros that changes the keyboards layout.

It just feels wrong to me :p Like the keyboard doesn't like me.

it is 100% personal preference. personally i've used both and liked both. soft-touch higher end membranes are great while so are mechanicals. the only bad choice are cheap $5 keyboards with spongey gummy feeling keys.

some people love the feel of mechanical, some people do not. honestly both a mechanical keyboard and a high-end membrane keyboard (the ones that arent gummy feeling) are both great options. also, there are several types of switches in both categories to pick from. some people love chiclet membrane keys, some like half-height, some like full height, some prefer laptop scissor switch mechanical, some like half height mechanical, some like full height mechanical and even some like non-cherry type keys like topre and ibm. just as people prefer different types of mice to fit their hands people prefer different types of keyboards.

keep in mind that when coming straight from a membrane it may take you time to get used to a mechanical so you might make a few errors along the way. i'd give it a good month of use and then come back and see what you think.

in short: there is no wrong choice. use what is most comfortable for you.
