Anyone interested in AMD Ry(Zen) CPUs

To all who have an interest in AMD (Ry)Zen processors, do not buy if you have a Intel Core i5 / AMD FX 8/9xxx CPU or better from the past 4 years*

* Only consider if you absolutely require full multithreading for specific software, or have slower CPU. It won't really make any meaningful difference in terms of games (going from Intel i5/FX 8/9xxx to RyZen)

From FX 8/9 it'll still likely be a giant step forward. And honestly this thread before things are fully released is completely pointless

I'm very much anticipating launch and the first reviews! Let's be honest the CPU front has been a snooze fest for years now. I'll buy and run what works well and is priced well...as much as I wanted to support AMD the last couple years my old FX8350 was like a boat anchor tied to my then GTX970's arse, Bulldozer and it's descendants were an interesting architecture which sadly just didn't pan out for gaming workloads. Honestly I can't wait to see what they've cooked up for us!

The accuracy of your comment is suspect. First most good games these days have at least 4 to 8 threads. If Ryzen is within 20% IPC at its base frequency of Skylake it will be able to run even single thread games without a hiccup. Do you think most users only play games. I really doubt that.Many do video encoding and streaming. Ryzen will kick butt on any I5 or 4 core I7 for such tasks. For databases it will run Intel 4, 6 , and 8 core I7's short of the $1400 I7 6950 ragged. It will run every game on the market at a very good frame rate. I think you should think about such warnings before you care to tell others what to do.

There is zero doubt it will slaughter anything amd makes in every situation. Today every AMD processor for sale is completely useless from a gaming standpoint. That changes the day ryzen is released. That is a big deal. If they'll drop a 6c/12t for $1 less than a 6700k I'll build a new computer if the early benchmarks are accurate. A new batch came out a day or two ago (benches) and they were showing around a i5 6500 fps on a 3.1/3.4 engineering sample. I think the actual release will be 3.4 to who knows turbo boost with their auto oc based on cooling thing. But as I said earlier there really is now way to tell someone to stay away from something that is an unknown quantity. And telling someone to stick with a x3xx FX processor is almost laughable.
