Anyone know how long for Android P to update on phones?

I find a list on wikipedia for models that will get the beta if you want it. But would anyone know if what other phones available now will get ability to update to whatever flavor they'll call ver 9?

I'm thinking of some Motos. Only the G5 plus is listed for the beta. Hoping if I buy a fairly new phone it will be able to update to "P".

Any help would be appreciated.

A lot depends on the carriers as they have to edit each version for their particulars of their systems, etc, so a lot of time say a LG 1234X will get android O in half the world, but other smaller carriers won't port it to their phones so you're left out in the cold anyways.
