was wondering if an i5 4690k would easily overclock to 4.4ghz wich is the stock turbo of a i7 4790k? has anyone seen any overclocking reviews on the 4690k? I couldn't seem to find any they where all about the 4790k
hmm wish I seen some benchmarks/a review on overclocking the 4690k? I know without hyperthreading there should be less heat thus allowing higher voltage but would the voltage be withen reason. also I would be using air cooling most likely acoolermaster evo I think it is
Hi,
Yes. 4.4GHz is not so hard, but this is the limit. if you wanna to exceed 4.5GHhz, you'll need water cooled OR crazy huge air cooling goods.
I'm using 4690k 4.4GHz 1.20V scythe Ashura Z87 ext4 ,83degrees temp @occt linpack .

Im at 65 degrees during occt/aida64 with my i7 4790k with a scythe mugen 4. Your temps seem quite high.
Hi Egneel could you give some info on your DDR3 ram speed timings etc and is this a manual oc or Asus auto clock ,also what's your Dram after overclock showing ie speed , i take it xmp was enabled

Correct, I had xmp mode enabled and otherwise manually overclocked. The ram I used was the new corsair vengeance 2400mhz CL11, they were pretty cheap and kick ass

Hi egneel thanks for the info im using the 4690k also, but settled for 4.5mhz with Corsair dominator 1866mhz CL9 timings 9-10-9-27 v core after over clock was 1.295 temps under full load while gaming at 1080p hit 52c max ,there's been some interesting dicussions on the i5 core refresh ,but tbh , unless the devs make games with more loads on hyperthreading, then most of the optimized games such as BF4 won't see any benefit, from next generation improvements ,admittedly last gen I7 cores still perform well against the latest gen but with 8 threads i'd expect that ,i primarily built this rig for gaming and video transcoding ,and so far have it has achieve what i intended it for ,one thing i do like is the Asus turbo app, which auto ramps fans and overclock based on you opening chosen apps ,saves me having to remember ,
My 4690k runs at 4.7Ghz on all cores. 36°C idle and around 72°C with an intel stress test. This is running on a hyper 212 evo at 1.274v. So 4.4Ghz is more than possible!
thanks imnotapop i am wondering what kind of power draw the cpu has at 4.7ghz and do i need a high end motherboard to reach 4.7 as a day to day set speed.
It should be capable of 4.4 GHz. It seems like most -4690K's manage at least 4.5, some as high as 4.8.
You definitely don't need a super high-end motherboard. A decent mid-range Z97 board from a good manufacturer should have little trouble with it. I'm not sure what the power draw will be in watts, but expect a pretty toasty Vcore of 1.3 V or so for 4.7 GHz.
