Anyone know why a computer clock would run fast?

Hi, guys....

I've had several computers in my life and never run into this: For the past week or so, my 7-yr-old (WinXP with service pack 3) HP Pavilion computer's time clock has been running fast, getting ahead of the actual time of day by about 1 extra hour every 24 hrs.

I'm wondering what might cause this, and, more importantly, what I can do to fix it--so that I don't have to keep re-setting the time shown on my monitor, so that files have the correct time-date stamp, etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

the mb clock chip is starting to go. there not much you can do other swap out the mb. you can try and see if there a newer bios update and new cmos battery. other then that there may be a 3 party program that will reset the clock time when you log onto the internet.
