Anyone Please help :(

Ok, I have had enough. I have tried everything! So I got a whole new computer, e6400, abit board, 150gb raptor, 2x1gb ocz 6400, antec nine hundred etc. Running xp. I just added 2 SATA Samsung SH-S183L DVD RW drives with lite scribe. I downloaded the drives and firmware update program provided by Sumsung.
IT STILL READS THESE DRIVES AS "CD-ROM" DRIVES!!!
I hope I didn't pay for two SATA CD-ROM drives that say dvd rw and lite scribe on them!
So I am wondering, what can I do?!
I have sp2, I have done all my updates, and everything runs great except for this.
Can someone help me or give me some ideas?
I posted this in the cd/dvd rw drives section, but seems like it's dead in there since these are so damn boring and you cant overclock them! (or can u? 😀 )

If you mean the bios.
Yes it will see almost all optical drives as CD-ROM.

Some DVD drive may also call then self CD-roms as well in windows.

Last off maybe the sata controller calls them that? try a different port?

They talk the same language. Dont worry and slap a DVD in there and if it reads it you are good to go.

Bios will read it as a cd-rom i think and so does windows. The firmware is for sure up to date. The sata controller on my motherboard is legit, flashed my bios.

Yeah dvds will play. Other than that, it wont do lite scribe, it wont burn or anything. Im about to throw my hands up and reformatt and buy a new mobo :[

Looks like its working to me(played a DVD).

You need Light Scribe media. This kind of media is designed to be "burned" on the top for the label. You essentially burn, flip and burn(i think thats the slogan for it too )

For the price Light Scribe it is not worth it.

Please install a demo(if you do not have software) of lets say Nero and see if you can burn some data to a DVD. Burning a DVD movie will take a little more work(legally of course)

As beerandcandy said Windows only does CD's from explorer

Well I do have about 10 dvd burning programs. All of which will say "no recording drive is dected" when I go to there burning section. Roxio, Nero all of it will say that. So the problem seems to be that these drives will work as cd-rom and dvd rom, but thats it.
I work at frys electronics and i ran this by my co workers and they seemed stumped too. At this point in time I dont no hat to do.
IS there anything at all I can also try?

It would seem to me that the drives should work if it is dvd r/w drive. Are you using vista or xp. If vista, this could be the problem as there is some backward compatibility problems with some hardware though not usually related to dvd.
