Hey guys,
I bought an i5 6500 recently, however it doesn't come with a cooler.
I have the stock cooler from my old i3 3220, would that suffice?
If not, could anyone recommend a cheap and easy to fit cooler?
My first priority is the easy to fit part.
Also, would I need to apply thermal paste to the CPU or would that come with the cooler?
Thanks!

Solution
may as well get a decent aftrermarket cooler that can be moved around to a new build or what ever how much is that used stock cooler going to cost over all ??

that artic could be had for 18 bucks and by far got to be better than the stock throw away one
also about the paste thing you asked

''Pre-applied MX-2 Thermal Compound ''

most coolers come with a small tube or pre applied paste

so then if this is your same i3 cooler [you see i3 is listed along with i5 and i7's ]

''SpecificationsMfr Part Number: E97378-001CPU Socket Type: LGA 1155/ 1156/ 1150Compatibility: Intel Core i7/ Core i5/ Core i3/ Pentium/ Celeron/ Xeon Processors Supports up to 95W TDP''...
The i5 6500 should have come with a stock cooler.

For inexpensive coolers, the most popular ones these days are the CM Evo 212 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&cm_re=212_evo-_-35-103-099-_-Product) and the Cryorig H7 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UF2DZ6565&cm_re=cryorig_h7-_-9SIA4UF2DZ6565-_-Product)

Edit: AS5 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0AJ3KM0696&cm_re=arctic_silver_5-_-35-100-007-_-Product) is cheap and generally better than anything that would ship with those coolers (if they come with any at all)

I bought the i5 used and the seller didn't provide the stock cooler.

There seem to be different stock coolers for Haswell and Skylake. Do you know the model number of the Skylake cooler?

Any stock cooler from the last 5 years will fit. (Hole positions are the same for socket 1155, 1150 and 1151)
Skylake (1151) is lower power TDP than Haswell (1150), so a Haswell stock cooler should work fine on a Skylake CPU.

so it should work as well

looking at this frm min 1;12 to min 1:33 looks like the skylake cooler is tha same as all the older for haswell??
