Anyone think GPU prices will go down within a couple months?

GPU prices have skyrocketed after this whole Ethereum mining *. Literally 2 months ago any gtx card at like 1060 or higher was selling for 20-40% less. If they do go down in a few months and I wait, I could upgrade from my 1060 3gb i was planning on getting to a 1070 and only add about $100. But right now 1070's are selling for like $500, and the cheapest I could find a 1060, 3gb version, was $230, on backorder. The 6gb versions were anywhere from $280-330 with limited availability. I want to build a new PC like right now of course haha, but if i can save $100-200 in a few months i would rather do that. I just haven't been able to find any information as to whether or not the prices will go back down soon. Thanks.

A GTX 1060 6GB I bought at NewEgg during the last Black Friday sale was $220. It is now listed at almost $700 and is out of stock. I really wish I could sell my card for that price and get a much better card with the proceeds

yeah i kinda fingured that would be the case. So.. think I should just go with the 1060 3gb for now and possibly sell and upgrade later? just looking for opinions, this will be my first build so im hoping everything goes smoothly.

But I'd add that the 1060 3gb is a waste of money and always has been. The RX 480 4gb was the better buy at that price, but now its the RX 570 for that price. When prices normalize, get a 570.

1050 > 460/560
470 > 1050ti
480 4gb/570 > 1060 3gb
480 8gb/580 >1060 6gb
1070, 1080, 1080ti = Best until Vega releases, then we will see what AMD brings to the market.

yeah the more I'm thinking about it, I'm probably going to wait. Even though I want a new PC right now, I think I can wait to upgrade until I can actually play Destiny 2 on PC in October.

That sounds like a wise idea. AMD's Vega will probably make the high end graphics card market more interesting by then.

Why is the 1060 a waste of money? I looked up benchmarks comparing the two and in total the 1060 beat the 570 basically everywhere, except FPS rates. And personally I just think the gtx lines are more well-rounded, just from what I've been seeing.
**I'm not looking to start a heated-argument, I'm just looking for opinions. First PC build, I've been doing research for months on what i should get and everything. An important note: I am personally perfectly happy building a system that will game at 1080p on ultimate settings on most all games, which the build I have in mind will accomplish. But if there is something better, I'd be happy to hear it out. thanks

I also like to point out it is summer time, and they commonly raise prices during this season as all the "kids" are out of school an bugging they are 'bored' unless they get XYZ bought for them. So they do take advantage of that. I am aware that prices will drop in the market-space regularly around the 'school' times, first one being in the next month when Summer Ends and the first 'back to school' sales start for August into Sep. Then there is the big build up to Black Friday, Xmas, then Post Xmas (1Jan) sales for overstock, before it leads into the SPRING / PreSummer sales to get purchases before Summer starts to 'keep the kids busy' for the Summer.

The current GPU price inflation is due to the resurgence of coin mining. Not summer school holidays.

I've seen pcpartpicker lists from youtubers and stuff like that but never did use it myself, just shopped around through every website and stuff manually lol. And i suppose that makes sense as well, right now the mining craze has raised prices drastically over that of the 'summer' markups, but still noted, thanks.

The 1060 3gb desktop card is not a 1060 6gb GPU with half the VRAM, it is a cut down chip. The 480 4gb and 1060 3gb were equal in performance in DX11, but the 480 was faster in DX12 and Vulcan. With the release of the 570, which is basically a overclocked 470, it moved closer to the 1060 3gb and looking at the benchmarks, the 570 has a better price/performance ratio.
I don't know what you mean by "well-rounded" as both companies excel in some programs but not others. AMD is ahead in DX12 and Vulcan, which game developers are moving to, and standing strong in DX11, trading wins.

Just to clarify, I'm not a AMD, nVidia or Intel fanboy. I was trained to look at purchasing things from a price/performance standpoint and right now, AMD is standing strong. They really have made some moves that fixed many issues and they have truly become competitive.
