Seems dead, which is a suprise considering how many webcams are out
there. Is there a more popular place for discussing them?

I'm trying to catch a destructive squirrel with mine. :) But I really
need a better zoom. This digital zoom loses so much clarity that I
can barely see a blur.

I still see some very good posts on this newsgroup. Its a lot better
than some of the other usenet newsgroups.

I have a Logitech cam and I capture shots for my webcam and community
pages. I still have to figure out how to stream to my AOL pages
though. One interesting thing that I did with my webcam was to make a
little movie using some program that I installed a while ago and forgot
about.

I have also used my cam with Yahoo Messager - still haven't been able
to use Netmeeting with it though.

Camcorders usually have good optical zoom lens.

see www.knighttrain.freeserve.co.uk/capture1.htm all taken with toucam +
200mm lens and active webcam using motion detection

Hmm, nice idea. I have a good Canon MV750i. Now what do I need to
hook it up? :)

I wondered if there might be a forum on a website somewhere.

No plans to use it to show my ugly mug, just for watching whats
happening when I'm not usually around.

Dylan,
How did you attach the 200mm lens to your toucam webcam?

If the cam has an analog output (for connecting to a tv or vcr),
then you would use an analog video capture card/device. If it
only has firewire output, then you would need to use a second
party software like webcamdv to make the video available to most
webcam programs (some webca programs do support the firewire
capture format).

look at www.knighttrain.freeserve.co.uk/lens.htm

you need a webcam to telescope adaptor 1.25" fitting, modified rear lens cap
(drill 32mm hole) and an additional adaptor attached to the lens cap.

Or just not having a tape in the camera

Should have mentioned that I was using webcamdv with firewire, I just
assumed everyone knew that you would have to use that 🙂
Since my last post I have tried the svhs output into my capture card.
Worked fine except for the same problem of the batt level, etc being in
the image..and of course the cam turning itelf off after a few minutes.
Made a mistake in the zoom factor of the MV150i....max optical is 16x.
32x is the 'default' digital zoom, although a simple menu change
increases this to 320x...useless really. 32x is probably the limit for
quality using digital zoom.

Leaving the tape door open on the cam often pevents the cam
timeout.

There's a small program called DVdriver that lets you use the video
with Netmeeting, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, etc. It fools these programs
into thinking that the camcorder is just a USB webcam. You can download
it at www.trackercam.com/download
