I initially wanted the regular gaming edition as the color scheme and brand would have gone well with my MSI gaming Motherboard. However, it was out of stock and the golden edition was only 30$ more expensive and so I got that instead.

I just cannot find any reviews so far for the card. I know this card won't operate much different from the regular gaming edition, but I just wanted to see how much the copper heatsink and backplate helps.

Anyone here have this card? As I wait for the card I am just getting to restless I suppose lol.

Of course bro. This card is 6% faster than the stock GTX 970 and it has a Dual Fan MSI Twin Frozr V cooling solution rather than the single-fan cooling solution on the stock GTX 970. The memory clock is also boosted up a bit + the copper heatpipes make it cooler. Don't forget to select this as the best answer 😛

I have one and it runs very cool. I don't have a regular one, so I can't compare, but mine generally runs between 60-62C with the Heaven benchmark. This is with the fans on auto in a room that's about 22C. I am sending it back to Newegg - there is a decent bit of coil whine/buzz. Its not obnoxiously loud, but for $400 I expect pretty much perfection.

@jeffredo

How's the addition of the backplate? Is it a deal breaker? Also, how quiet is it (apart from coil whine)? Do the copper heatsinks do their job? I'm looking to SLI these, and like you, I want them to be perfect :) I don't mind if they have to be sent back, as long as I get a working pair I'm sold! Would you recommend the product or should I get the Gaming edition? Also, one more question, would there be any interference with a Gaming Edition waterblock and this one? Or is a waterblock compatible with both?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I'm just curious 😛 Premium better be premium, you know 😉

The backplate is very nice - I can't fault the construction of the card at all. Top drawer all the way. The fans are quiet as well. Again, I don't have experience with the standard MSI Gaming, but it looks to be identical as far as basic design goes. I'm sure its shares the same PCB. With the Golden you do get the snazzy backplate and copper heatsink. It does run very cool. Just not sure if its worth an extra $40-$50

Ok, thanks for the info. Aargh, I don't mind about the copper part of it, but the backplate and the fact that I have a craving for "premium" products is what is going through my mind back in forth. The only advantage I can think of that the Gaming has over the Gold is that it matches my Red and Black theme. Bus still then, I'm unsure. What's your call?

I recently got two of the Golden editions to replace my old GTX 580. I just got them so I've only ran them for a day or so but in SLI they're great.

What you'll get with both versions of the 970 is the fans stop spinning at idle and very low usage, only around 60 C do they start to turn on but the golden editions run cooler so the fans don't turn on as often which makes for a very quiet pc when gaming. Running planetary annihilation on max settings won't even prompt the fans to start moving.

The back plate for me is a must have, I used my 580 without one for a while and then finally got one and it makes cleaning the card and just overall look and feel amazing. Having a red and black color scheme as well does make them stand out but not in a bad way, they do look kinda...golden tacky but they will sure catch people's eyes when they see your case.

Sorry for the formatting, posted from my phone.
