Anything I can do about GPU fan inconsistancy?

Currently I'm having some problems with my GPU fan (

) and I was wondering if there is anything software wise I can do, or is it simply time for a new card?

Solution

I mean the GPU, there is a sensor in the chipset that may not be transmitting properly...

The problem is, that is with no GPU usage, and it does it even as the fan approach 100C and I have to turn off whatever app I'm running if not my card will turn itself off to prevent damage. The RPM of the fan when its running right is 2500 or so, it never shuts the fan off itself, its an older card. This is what it looks like when it randomly decided to run at proper speeds:

Ah sorry, didn't see that part was only looking at fan and temp.

If you turn off "Auto" you can set the fan to run at a constant speed, have you tried that? Seems like the temp sensor has died in the board somewhere. If thats the case you'll need a new board.

Do you mean my motherboard or GPU? Also, when I attempt to set it to a certain speed the inconsistanceis still happen just as often. Currently since the orginal post its dropped out to 1000 rpm or lower twice while staying correct. However, sometimes it will do that for hours (2600 rpm drop to 0, back to 2600, back to zero over and over.) Then it will start working as intended.

I mean the GPU, there is a sensor in the chipset that may not be transmitting properly. Could also be the motor on the fan. If you are adventurous you can usually replace the fan if you search around on ebay for around 20 bucks, see if it works. I have to be honest it could be either one so don't spend the money unless you want to risk it, may just be worth it to replace the board, as a bad temp output form a chip is not fixable.

Solution

Ah, ok thanks, I was planning on upgrading to a GTX 960 soon anyway.

OK cool so that works out. Thinking more about it its more likely to be the fan motor itself, the motor may be burning out and so its building resistance, and so confuses the sensors that turn it on and off.

I've had the GPU since year of release and I game usually 10+ hours a day, so its probably just wore out from such constant use.
