Question Anything new on WD Unlocker without Admin rights?

Greetings,

I own a passport in which I store my day to day tools (mostly advanced spread sheets). My new company's laptop has standard user rights. On my first day there My passport asks me for Administrator rights to run WD unlocker.

The thing is, after waiting for 1 week IT finally came to the rescue and granted me access to my passport. I unlocked my drive and activated auto unlock and everthing seemed to work fine until I unplugged my drive. Next day of work when I connect my drive, it requests administrator rights to run WD Unlocker AGAIN!

I can´t wait for days to retrieve information i require upon minutes, and obviously IT won´t elevate my rights nor come to my desk everytime I need to log into My passport.

After reading several forums, I realize this has been an issue with WD for years, but I was wondering if anything new or a solution has been found to use the WD unlocker on standard user accounts? Most information I've read is a couple years old.

Thanks for the assist and sorry for long post.

Best regards!

Forum rules do not allow assistance with circumventing passwords or any other security measures for that matter.

The passport is personal property - correct? And you are using it to transfer files between work and home.

For most companies such use is a security risk to some degree or another. In today's world the risk is quite high even without any malice or ill intent involved on your part.

IT may be following company policy with respect to your Passport and its' use.

What you need to do is to escalate the matter to your supervisor and have the supervisor work as necessary to get the IT folks to either: 1) provide a permanent rights or, 2) some other viable solution.

Note: normally I would close this thread accordingly. However, there may be additional thoughts and comments presented so I will forego closure for the time being.

That does not preclude someone else closing the thread in the meantime if deemed necessary and applicable for any reason.

Thanks for the reply Ralston, however, my question was not intended to find a way to circumvent passwords.

There's no policy in my company regarding external storage, there are no blockers like waterwall or encription programs and USB drives are allowed. I´m the manager of my division so I made the request directly. The policy applied by IT is that all computers must have standard user rights, specially to avoid tampering with their monitoring tools.

The main issue is that IT already helped to install and unlock my drive, but that installation and unlock was done with administrator rights. When I plug my drive again, even with auto unlock enabled, WD Unlocker executes and my system requests for Administrator rights to use it.

This is clearly an issue within WD Unlocker design, as in why should it ask for administrator rights to run on a PC where autounlock has already been enabled? This issue forces me to bring IT to my office every time I need to use My passport, which is annoying to both sides.

All I wanted to know is if someone knows about a solution for this issue (like changing properties in the WD Unlocker in my home computer or a clickable option within WD Utilities). Western Digital last input on this subject (3 years ago) was to run WD Unlock with Administrator rights (geniuses). I'm not into tech so I´m unaware if something changed over the last 2 years. That´s the support I was looking for. Hope this clarifies a bit more the request.

Best regards,

Your Passport, their laptop and network.
Problems abound, as expected.

Don't do that.

It's just an external drive. Get one, or have the company supply one, just for use at work.
Don't mix your personal drive and data with their network and policies.
