Sorry for flooding this forum with questions, and sorry for the nondescript title as I have difficulty putting my ideas into words.

So, my old LG monitor died the other day and I bought a new one to replace it. After watching a few reviews, I settled on the AOC 24G2SE. From what I've heard the monitor has great color space (126% sRGB) compared to my old LG's 99% sRGB, along with much higher contrast ratio (3500:1 vs the 1000:1 of the old LG). Because I mainly use my PC to watch videos, the extra colour would be a welcome feature of the monitor.

So I expected the colour to pop. And it does! I was blown away by how much more colourful the monitor is (sorry, maybe not the correct term, but I'm sure you understand). But, I noticed that the grey colour... isn't as dark as it was on the LG. Pure black colour looks inky black, much darker than the old LG. Whites are brighter too. The grey though just looks off. The thing is "dark-mode" websites like Tom's and Youtube looks noticeably brighter. I wonder if there's a setting I'm missing? I expected the much higher contrast ratio to produce.. darker grey?

Unfortunately I can't make a comparison with the old LG as that monitor already bit the dust, but I watch a lot of youtube to know that the grey is indeed different, it's brighter on the supposedly more "higher-contrast-ratio" panel. Any help is appreciated, thank you...

For the record, the old LG monitor was the 22MP68VQ, it was the cheapest LG monitor I could find when I bought it back in 2017. It was pretty basic, to be honest.

EDIT : I also noticed the monitor came with a DisplayPort cable, but I currently use HDMI to connect it to my GPU. I use a custom bracket to install my GPU in the case which blocks the DisplayPort port, I would need to cut some metal if I want to utilize the DisplayPort connector, Does using a HDMI instead of DisplayPort affect the monitor's colour reproduction?

Hey, I presonally think it's the difference in capabilities the two monitors have. I felt the same when I switched monitors before. You could try playing around with the color settings on the monitor or in your GPU's display settings and also see if your monitor has a black equalizer if changing that helps.

So what you're saying is I just need to adapt to the new monitor? Alright, I'll give it some time.

By the by, I've played around with color settings and GPU settings, and I didn't find any setting that resolved the "problem". I'm starting to think, maybe this is the correct grey colour and I've simply been seeing the wrong colour all these years
