Hi everyone, I need to buy a new screen for my new PC. Currently I am looking at 24” monitors. I have identified 3 possible candidates and I would like to get some comment on them. I will use my monitor for mostly everything, so watching video, photo editing and also gaming.

AOC 23.6" E2450swh (AUD$140)

Benq 23.8" GW2470H (AUD$169)

LG 24MP47HQ 23.8” (AUD$189)

The AOC is a very good deal, it is dirt cheap and it got a respond time of 2ms (it claim). But I don’t know whether I can trust AOC as I know they make budget product, so I don’t know whether the monitor would last. I don’t know what panel it is, but from the price and spec, I am guessing it is TN panel. The BenQ lies in between the other 2 in terms of everything (built quality, price, etc…) I quite like it, as VA panal seems to have a good balance between TN and IPS. Though, BenQ, I am also a little worry about built quality, but I am quite sure it would be much better than AOC. The LG, nice monitor, but also the most expensive. Though it only got 1xHDMI and 1xD-Sub as input (though I doubt that I will use more than 1 HDMI). It is also IPS panel, and I sort of trust LG built quality.

Anyone used these monitors?? I can’t find much reviews on these monitors (probably because they are on the cheap end lol) Any thought and advices/comment would be greatly appreciated.

It would be nice to get a cheaper one as my PC build already cost me a good chunk of money, but I wanted to get something that works. BTW, I live in Australia, if that make a different on the choice.

Hello, nice selection of monitors!

All of these monitors should fit your needs, but I usually recommend BenQ over others. The GW2470H is supposed to have great contrast which will help with photo editing. However there is no response time listed on amazon, it is reported to have a 10ms or less response time. (Don't quote me on that) So if your looking to do professional gaming, this is not the monitor for you. So the BenQ is what I would go to for photo and video editing, with great colors. However, if gaming is on the top of your list and you will be playing competitively, I would go with another monitor.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply.

I am not into serious gaming (just more general gaming). I actually just find 2 more option: Philip’s 243V5QHSBA ($159 after cash back) and Samsung S24D300HS ($164). Both seems to be fairly cheap at the moment. The Philips is a MVA panel and the Samsung is TN.

Is Philip still a good monitor maker?? I remember it used to be considered to be fairly good, but now hardly anyone used them. Know the reason? As for Samsung, it is a good price and a good brand, but the monitor looks a bit ugly lol and is TN panel doesn’t looks as good as th other type in terms of colour?? Currently I am leaning toward the BenQ and Philips (and I am tempted by the LG since it is the cheapest good brand IPS that I can find and so many people say IPs colour is very good lol)
