I have just purchased AOC G2460Pf Full HD 24" LED 144Hz Gaming Monitor
It's plugged in via dvi my graphics card is nvid8a gtx 960 have updated all drivers but when I select 144hz my screen goes off or it looks like a kids has run all over it with crayon and keeps going off and on is it a fault monitor and needs to be changed or should i get a rx560 can't afford a 570

Solution
I blame Newegg's specs. LoL
D-Sub, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, USB 2.0

You are correct in that HDMI will only give you 60hz on that monitor. 144hz usually requires dual link DVI (aka: DL-DVI), Display Port , or HDMI v2 .
So please try the DP and don't forget that you have to enable 144hz in the monitors settings too.

The G2460PF does have a DVI port.

Use DisplayPort instead

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply
The spec for the monitor
Inputs: HDMI & VGA & DVI & DisplayPort.
I have it connected via DVI cable as HDMI will not give 144hz, I tried my friends rx580 and the same thing would happen.
I will be taking it back to the store for replacing
Am looking forward to getting the full 144hz as it is a good monitor for the price.

You can run 120 Hz over HDMI on that monitor by setting a custom resolution:
