AoE III wont play on Win 8

Hey

We bought AoE III complete edition for 'XP or higher'

We are on Win 8.1 and DirectX 11

The error message at the conclusion of installing the game says we don't have d3dx9_25.dll which is required to run the game.

As far as I can gather, this is in v9 of DirectX and not in 11... I cant get the file.

I used Microsoft and the online support was useless. She suggested everything I had already tied and not succeeded at before telling me it was meant to be run on XP and my connection magically failing.

I see from browsing other people are running the game ok on Windows 8 so I am hopeful that we can still succeed.

Help please? I have been sitting for hours trying to resolve this =(

I've run the game on Windows 7, 8, and 10 all perfectly fine. What graphics card do you have? And can you simply ignore the pop-up message?

Hi, sorry I didn't receive an alert!

Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD8570

Can't ignore the pop up as the game doesn't load regardless.

Son has since installed it on an older computer running XP which is not ideal but has stopped him complaining!

Still not happy and would like to know WHY!

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode for XP?

I'm not sure how to do that (the computer I am trying to run it on hasn't got XP?)

If you can locate the executable file of it, right-click it, and somewhere under properties you can enable compatibility mode for it. Is this game purchased through Steam or disc?

ll go looking for ... compatibility mode... and I am installing from disk.
