Aopen AX6L 440LX upgrade

Want to upgrade the CPU.
Currently running a PII 300 Klamath.
As per this link, I see I can either get a PII 333 or a Celeron.

Q. My multiplyer goes up to 8.0, so can I get a Celeron 533 (is there such a CPU) or can I get a 633 (I found a site with one) and run it @533MHz?

Q. Would any of my Celeron options actually be an upgrade? I don't want a faster Celeron, if the 512K L2 cache of my PII makes it a strong contender.

You should be able to use two 533 PPGA processors in two adequate dual CPU compatable converters, but I can't be sure. I doubt you can use any of the newer Celeron 2 (FC-PGA) CPU's, which have had SMP disabled. You might want to see what Powerleap has to offer.

Whoosh!

...and in laymans term that would mean?

Sorry but the sudden jump to dual CPUs has got me.

Well I found this and this but the price doesn't seem worth it. I'd settle for being able to run a Celeron instead. What I'd like to do is take a Celeron about 450MHz or faster and just drop it in.

Is that possible?

Sorry about that, I got you mixed up with another guy with dual processors. Anyway, it looks like the latest BIOS for your board does not support Coppermine CPU's. You can still use the PPGA version of the Celeron 533, but not the Coppermine version. And you will probably need a PPGA to Slot-1 converter, as I don't think the 533 was available as a slot processor. Also, the processor is multiplier locked, it works at it's set multiplier regardless of the motherboard settings.

For the speed your looking for consider THESE EVERGREEN PROCESSORS which are considered overdrives for your system. In truth they are normal Celerons mounted on a special Slotket with voltage controll, etc. Up to 766MHz is at your calling, and the $129 price for the 766 includes an "free" 128MB ram module worth $20-$30.

Not bad if you consider the cost of a CPU, RAM & mobo upgrade. Pity they only ship to the U.S. & Canada.

BTW, WTF is up with the server here tonight?

SQL stuff I'm told. Refreshes are really messing up my creative typing. Oh well, it encourages short, consise posts.

You too? You start to type and then the page reloads in the middle of your typing, right? You have to wait for it to load twice to stop the problem, right?
