APC Essential SurgeArrest 5-APC-PM5-GR

Solution
Surge protectors must be replaced when the protection indicator LED does not light up since obviously it's no longer protecting your equipment.

Most surge protectors can only stop one current surge event - - (in effect it "sacrifices" itself to save your computer from getting damaged)

Replace it ASAP.

If lightning storms are frequent in your area just now, unplug all your equipment until you get another surge protector.

Solution
what Phillip Corcoran said above, X2

plus, i'd look at a better unit - APC quality has gone downhill since Schneider Electric purchased them in 2005/6

i run a CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/cp1350pfclcd/
for it's pure sine wave plus it's surge protection. I live in thunderstorm alley with a power substation about 1/4 mile down the road - anytime there's a thunderstorm, our power invariably goes out 2 or 3 times - and i've had overvoltage spikes that fried cordless phones and other equipment, but the same cyberpower unit is still going strong 3 years on
