I recently built a new computer for the first time in 6 years. With that computer i got an Intel i7 Kaby Lake Processor. I'm a lifetime windows 7 user and have no intention of switching to windows 10. But i just read an article about windows cutting off support and security updates for Intel's new generation of processors on win7 systems. Does this mean that i have to upgrade to win10 to be able to use my processor effectively? Or am i ok sticking with win7 for now. Advice, options and specifics about this kind of thing would be greatly appreciated.

Yup, Windows 7 is NOT supported on the newest platforms. That means no drivers and no Windows updates (the site is blocked if running on one of the prohibited processors). Given that Windows 7 is at end-of-life it's time to move on.

Microsoft stopped mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13, 2015. It has extended support (security/critical updates and some compatability updates) until January 14, 2020. So while you can run Win7 for the rest of your life, you won't get most of the drivers support, instructions sets updates, recognition etc that newer cpus need to get full performance.

It's like a man getting old. If he's got supported OS, Microsoft will get the nurse if he needs one a walker or wheelchair, meds, etc. If he's still using win7 or any other unsupported OS, Microsoft basically tells him 'hey, you still got feet' and leaves it at that.
