Apphang on various games and "driver has stopped but recovered" error (AMD)

Hello, I've had this problem with my computer for quite a long time now. Essentially, I have found out that the initial trigger of my problem is that an application crashes, display turns black for a second and returns to windows - on some games the game will continue to work but some the window just turns white or black and unplayable. This is the result of an Apphang error followed by the display drivers stopping and recovering (I'm using AMD). I am fairly certain I've had this issue for two different graphic cards now, both AMD and Nvidia.
I have been through many, many different solutions for this but to no avail, here is a list of things I can remember doing off the top of my head:
Reinstalling windows, getting brand new and correct drivers etc.
Deleting various updates that have known to cause this issue.
Changed registry values to do with the time detection issues for the GPU (to suggested values by Microsoft).
Turned off any over-clocking and stuff.
Checked for overheating (perfectly fine).
Restored BIOS to defaults.
Checked and changed my RAM.
Bought a new power supply.
At first I thought the issue would be that the PSU was faulty and for a split second during some games didn't send enough power to the GPU, however this wasn't the issue. I am thinking that because I have had two graphics cards now with this issue that my old PSU may have broken them both, so I have yet to try getting a new GPU (it's due an upgrade anyway).
I hope that this problem isn't my motherboard as I bought it brand new and had no problems with it out of the box - it's a Sabertooth 990 FX R2.0, and I'm aware that the drivers for Windows 7 stopped a while ago so I have yet to try installing Windows 8 instead but I highly doubt this will fix the issue.
Some games this happens with are any source-based game (DotA 2, CS:GO, TF2, Vindictus), The Evil Within, WoW, Battlefield (i'm pretty sure), even Sonic & All-stars racing Transformed.
Some games this DOESN'T happen with aren't necessarily low-demanding either, such as Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 and Mount & Blade (ok that's easy to run but still).
My specs are as follows:
MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 8320
GPU: AMD HD 7850
RAM: 4GB (used to be 8GB but still had the issue)
PSU: Corsair CX 600
Monitor: 2560x1440 irun (korean panel)
Please help me out with this, it's so annoying and I have to use my laptop to play games when I'd rather be using my large display and setup.

I used to have a BFG 850W and after finding out they went bankrupt and some of their hardware was seen as dodgy I assumed that it probably messed up both graphics cards I had previously.
But as of 2 weeks ago I bought the new CX 600 and still have the issue.

I can't remember which significant set of drivers it was but for Windows 7 they stopped releasing updates for it back in mid-2013, but when I checked for Windows 8 there have been releases recently. It might have been chipset or BIOS drivers/updates.
