ARKit 2 also enables ... persistent experiences that remain anchored to environmental objects, so you can come back to them again and again.

Google's Project Tango had this. Such a shame they killed it before their ARCore could catch up.

Apple demonstrated a Lego AR application that was built with ARKit 2 on stage at WWDC using an iPad.

This is just... wow! Definitely one of the more impressive and just cool AR demos I've seen. To have Lego video game characters interacting with real Lego buildings is quite something!
