Apple earbuds' mic works with spectre laptop but not desktop using realtek hd audio?

I am aware of the fact apple's earbuds have the ground and mic pins switched. However, it seems that the audio driver on my HP spectre laptop is capable of detecting this and correcting for it. Is there a way to either use these drivers for my desktop or to solder a part to swap the pins manually? I already have an adapter to swap the earbuds' 4-pin jack to the two 3-pin ports on the desktop.

Probably not an issue with either but an issue with your adapter. Does the mic work on a phone or something with a 4 pin jack?

It works on my laptop for both speakers and mic (driver is conexant smart audio hd) but not my desktop
