The problem with your statement is that it is directed towards iPad purchases, while the researched was directed towards all Apple products. Consumer Reports also puts Apple on top when it comes to customer satisfaction, quality, and expectations.
So who is the Stephen Hawking of computers? Your premise is without validation.
There is one thing that anyone who purchases an Apple product can be assured of is leading edge design, and high-quality. Apple represents the best of American ingenuity and design, and why American's would be so opposed to see an American firm kicking the ass of various foreign firms is beyond me. This rabid hate of Windows or Apple is merely a sign of immaturity. Both companies have their flaws, but what American firm doesn't. Compare MS or Apple to the health insurance industry and they will come out looking like angles. The beauty of our marketplace is that it is the consumer who gets to decide what to buy. To choose the Mac OS over Windows does not mean that one is stupid. There are many PhD's in academia who use Mac's and have been for years and they are anything but stupid.
Hell, toast the success of Apple and be happy that they employ a lot of American engineers and do not out source their designers to India or China.
