This may be a hard question

My friend has a single core 1.8GHz Powermac g5 i was wondering can you upgrade it to the dual core cpu?

any help would be great :)

Thanks,

Solution
Unfortunately, NO. The processor, or processors, in the Power Macintosh G5 models cannot be upgraded.

The processors in all models are mounted on a custom daughtercard with a 300-pin connector. Although this daughtercard does not contain the ROM, it appears that the processor is controlled by Apple ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits), and consequently it is not feasible to upgrade the processor.

I wouldn't even bother wioth that machine. I have the dual 2.0ghz g5 and it can barely keep up with day to day things with Ubuntu and 8gb ram. was a great machine when I got it 8 years ago but those dinosaurs are only good for the case or a kids computer lol. and yeah the CPUs are soldered down to board so nada you can do. take the case and build a cool hackintosh or custom build
