If you just got the PC, then it probably has a recovery disk set or
a link to create a Recovery disk set. Check your documentation &
complete this before doing much else with the PC.
Many times OEMs include software, such as Trial versions or other
things you may not want or require. Usually, I recommend that new
PCs have a clean-up session with Add/Remove programs in Control
Panel (Classic View). You should review the program listing and
remove anything you don't want or will use.
As to AntiVirus protection, I'd recommend you download and use
a 1-Year free subscription to Computer Associates eTrust 7.0. It's
(IMO) a better product than either Norton or McAfee.

System Restore only changes the System State. It wouldn't remove
any downloads. However, any programs installed after the Restore
Point was taken would be removed.
