A couple months ago i had a problem with my gpu cooler (Gigabyte HD 7970Ghz) so i replaced Gigabyte's cooler, and also i put some heatsinks on the ram chips, but now i have problem,
whenever im playing and gpu gets into high temps the game starts lagging, so im pretty sure thats its the ram chips..

So my question is, can i apply thermal paste on the ram chips instead of the thermal pads?
that wont be a problem?

Solution
if you put thermal paste on and there is no contact then it's worse than the pads, if you use thermal paste and you have to use a thick layer then it'll be worse than the pads.
Use afterburner to check the GPU temps and see what is actually happening, it might be that the core is throttling.
Use lower settings and v-sync until you get pads if you still need them, not using v-sync will result in 100% ultilisation, using v-sync will only use as much as is needed.

So i can't use thermal paste? my thermal pads of the ram chips are so bad,
I can buy new pack of thermal pads from ebay but it will take years to receive it. and currently i cant play any games because
its throttling out of heat.

Ok thanks man, I guess that i'll just leave the gpu as it is until i'll get new thermal pads.
