Applying thermal paste to Laptop CPU & GPU

Hi All.

While cleaning my laptop, I removed the heat spreader attached to heat pipe from the CPU/GPU chip and then re-installed them without changing the thermal paste. My fan would sit around 3500-3600 rpm idle and now it sits at 4200 rpm just after windows boot. (I use speedfan to monitor).

I'm thinking of replacing the thermal paste and I have seen a video in youtube which shows replacing the thermal paste for the exact same laptop as mine (Sony VAIO VPCEB34EN). After watching the video, I have few questions:

1) Should I use the same amount of thermal paste for the CPU and GPU like shown in the video?

2) I don't game or use intensive application to heat up the laptop. So, can anyone recommend me a good thermal paste for cheap price from www.amazon.in, www.theitdepot.com or www.flipkart.com?

3) Do I must use 99% Iso-propyl alcohol to clean? Can any other liquid be used to clean the existing thermal paste?

Solution
1. Yes
2. Use good paste even if it costs more, you don't want to open up laptop often. http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00EAN27F4/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0NKD7DWCEQFBQ4Y8RFF2
Not bad at all but not expensive either.
3. Iso-propyl alcohol is best because of fast drying and good cleaning capabilities but hi concentration Ethyl or methyl alcohol can be used too. Although it's has same main ingredient don't use rubbing alcohol.
If you can't find Iso-propyl alcohol try at some printer shop, they use it in large quantities.
3500 - 4200 is very fast fan speeds, it must be making a right howling noise.
Thermal paste can be picked/rubbed off with a cloth. Just as long as the old paste is all off, I dont use any special cleaner liquid, just some elbow grease.
Any paste will do, and plop a blob on each cpu / gpu which needs the heatsink. The paste shouls shread out in a very thin layer when the heatsink is screwed down. You can test if you put on the correct amount, by removing the heatsink again to see if it spread correctly.

1) Shouldn't it be in a peanut size?

2) I was thinking to ask opinions about that thermal paste, but you recommended it already 😍

3) I have found the 99% Iso-propyl alcohol.. It's a bit too much qty for me, but its cheap anyway.

One more question...
Does these thermal pastes have any time period to use within or it will be good to use even after years of storage??
