Apps keep moving back to device storage

I have moved every app I can from device storage to my SD card. It frees up a lot of space. Then all of a sudden I get device storage full messages. I check and some of the apps have moved back to device storage. My guess is the app received an update and that is what caused it. Any way of preventing that?

Most apps can't actually be installed anywhere other than on non-removable storage, so when you move an installed app it is effectively regarded as "missing". The App Store then restores it to it's proper location.

Only certain parts of an app my be installed on the SD card (eg the words database of a Dictionary app).

You can't just move stuff from one location to another after it's been installed, that just "breaks" the app.

Nothing you can do about that except uninstall apps you don't use very much, or buy a phone with more non-removable storage.
