I recently built a computer for my parents. Now I have their old computer that I'd like to replace the CPU on to sell.

The current CPU is an AMD Athlon II 170u 2GHz. The motherboard does not have a slot to install a GPU so I would like to find a processor that is compatible with the motherboard.

Yes, yes, I know, it's best to replace the motherboard and go with a dedicated GPU. However, this is not my question as I am not necessarily looking to build a gaming system so please spare me.

I was looking at the AMD Phenom II X4 955 but it does not seem to have integrated graphics so I suspect this will not work. I have done quite a bit of research but I can't seem to get a straight answer so I turn to you. Any help will be very much appreciated.

APU's are only on FM2 motherboards. AM2/AM3.. older versions or ones sold as Business had integrated graphics on the motherboard itself and not the CPU. You should have considered building around Fm2 for the current updates.

I think that link just answered my question. I hadn't found a model number for the mobo until I looked one more time when you asked. Found it and came up with the link. Looks like the Phenom is compatible. I tried looking for specs on the current Athlon cpu to see if it did indeed have integrated graphics but I couldn't find an answer.

I probably would need to also upgrade the psu since the current one is only 200W I think.

Thanks, delaro, but as I said, I am not looking to replace the motherboard. I simply want to do some minor/inexpensive upgrades to the current system, namely the cpu.

Yes, I know. I was hoping to just spend maybe $20 or so on a used chip to get it running and then turn around and sell it on the cheap or give it to a friend. Again, I am not looking to build a system to do much with, just trying to get this thing running at a decent pace to perform basic tasks.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, one of the things that my mom had complained about was how slow it was to play videos from YouTube. So you don't think that even an upgrade to the CPU would make much difference?
