I am concidering upgrading my PC, I have a GTX 960 and i was wondering could I use it with an A8 7650k.
I have read about pairing them (SLI/Crossfire) but after reading on this I think it’s not wise to “pair” them . Is it possible to run the A8 just as a CPU and use the 960 as a GPU.
I am asking as I have have spotted a good deal on a motherboard combo.
Thank you

Solution
The AMD A8 7650k will work with a GTX960 and will massively boost gaming performance, however, the 7650k is an old CPU and will struggle in modern games, even with a GTX960.

There is a lot more to a CPU than core count and clock speed.
Here is a $60 2-year-old quad-core CPU at 3.1ghz vs your 7650k.

Even a $50 newer dual-core APU like the AMD Athlon 200ge @3.2ghz will beat the 7650k

Yes, you can run it "without pairing". In fact, you couldn't pair those if you tried. Just be sure to connect your display to your graphics card output and not the motherboard.

Thanks, will there be any major bottlenecks as the A8 7650k seems very cheap for a quad core 3.3 gHz, in my case. Thanks
