after watching Mook get killed, Aran is always busy, what does it take to
get him to talk to you. can the game be finished w/ out his help?
please help! this is the third time I've started over w/ a complete
unload/reload of BGII and ToB

no.

Apply the OFFICIAL ToB patch (latest version is, I believe, 2.5.26498).
This fixes the problem of people being perpetually "too busy to talk to
you".
