Started the Envoy of Shadows arc with my ma/regen 36 scrapper.

First couple of missions were the usual CoT carp-ola, yellows,
orange, some whites.

Then, in one of them, rescue the 8 i think, round the corner and see
a hostage.....off a little to the left is a foot of a mage. So i
scout a little, and do a con on it.

Envoy.

Puple.

Huh?

Atta was red when I exemp'd to do it with a friend, and Envoy is
Purple?

Anyways, didn't have to fight him, as I rescued the last hostage.

Moving on, get to the mission that says defeat all in cave, Envoy
included.

Clear map, and look for Envoy.

Behemoth Monster is Envoy, and he's puple and lvl 38.

I had with me, 2 Focused Rage, 1 Enrage, 2 Insight, and 1 Good Luck.
So, I pop those, hit Focus Chi, then hit him with my Eagle's Claw
(Acc/Dmg/Dmg @37 SO) then Storm Kick (Acc/Dmg/Dmg/Dmg/Dmg/Dmg @ 37
SO) and Dragon's Tail (Acc/Dmg/Dmg/Dmg @ 37 SO), 37 being 35 improved
twice so they were maxed SO.

He reached behind me, grabbed my but, then showed it to me.

At 36, debt is 21K a shot.

I think that actually counted as 63K.

Wow.

And I did have Integration, Instant Healing, Tough, and SuperSpeed
running.

Wow.

So much for leveling quickly. And I did not power level this char at
all.....

And, yes, it was after Issue #3 went live, and I had it set to Hard
Boiled.

If it makes you feel any better, you'll get to fight him one final time :)

Didn't they change it so all AV's con purple now? They aren't meant to be
soloed.

I can believe that. Bosses, Elite Bosses, and AV's all got a big damage
boost in I3. You might be better of bringing lots of luck inspirations.
They do stack, so two of the basic ones will give you 50% defense and three
will give you 75%. Popping one Good Luck is 33% defense, which really isn't
all that much against an AV. Once my characters hit the 30's, there are
only two inspirations I'm generally interested in from a soloing
standpoint - Health and Defense. I don't think the defense buffs will allow
you to defeat an AV because they have so many hp's I doubt even a complete
tray full of defense buffs would last you through the fight, but it's worth
a try.

I'm not sure what you mean by "so much for leveling quickly". Did you level
this character quickly and feel that that somehow hurt you against Envoy?
It didn't. As long as you have SO's in your powers, you're on the same
footing as someone who took twice as long to level. If you meant that you
can't level quickly from here on out, you can! You have one mission slot
blocked by Envoy (unless you want to recruit a couple of people to help you
take him down). Set your difficulty to Unyielding or Invincible and go to
town with the other slots. I don't think you need to worry about any more
AV story arcs until you get to the 40's. If you don't mind street hunting,
you beati up purple Crey Lts. in Brickstown or go to the corner of Creys
Folly near the Rikti Crash Site entrance and brutalize the Freakshow there.
They come in two kinds of groups - a couple of Bosses and a small entourage
(i.e. a Lieutenant and a minion) or large packs for Lts. and minions. I'm
not sure about whether the Boss groups are juicy with the changes in I3, but
the Lt./minion packs should be pretty easy to defeat and worth great xp.

K, getting my but handed to me once is bad enough, but 'feel better' that I
face him again?

Luckily, I'm now only 36K out from 37, so I'm going to try and level during
the mission.

And, I'll hold my defense insp for the first attack on him.

But if I don't do at least 300 points on him in my first set of attacks,
it's bunny time.

I know that Statesman said that we might not be able to solo all of our
missions, but it has been a matter of pride to me that I have only died
while teamed.

Weelllll.... My Illusion controller hit him at the 36/37 mark. So a report:

You face him three times in this story arc.

18340 hp, ~650 melee, ~350 foot stomp, ~175 dark aura, unknown ranged
attack.

First mission. Rescue 8? Ok, since these so often start turning into
'defeat everything' I pulled up three Phants and started slogging away.
About 15 minutes in and half way through the map I pass over a low wall
and die... Then some NPC talk text comes up while my Phants get
splattered. About 10 seconds to kill four unprepped ~800 hp people. Note
that unlike most boss/leader style events he only talked after he
attacked, not at the 200 foot range that gives a decent warning.

Second and third missions. Some warning that he's in there, so a team
took him down. A good team can take him in under a minute with zero risk.

Also this set of contacts gave me Terra, a DE AV, without warning.
Actually the contact said that the whozit had turned into a DE, I
figured on a boss and got another 18340hp 600+ damage AV. Luckily Terra
lacks the AV status defenses so a single controller can lock her and (in
my case at least) do enough damage to negate the healing. So I SKed a 18
scrapper to do her in.

A different contact offered my the 'The Terra Incident' story arc, so I
looked it up on the web at the first mission, and saw that it was all
DE.

If I want to deal with that much mushrooms and grass, I would have
bought a house with a lawn.

I really don't like doing DE missions.

It's not because there are only 2 enemies in those that are not
resistant to smashing damage.

It's not that they have these things that drop and buff them in weird
and bizarre ways.

It's not that thing with the un-swallowed calamari.

I just don't like DE.

If our former president can get a major source of vitamins and
nutrients removed from his official transport means (no broccilli on
Air Force 1), I don't have to fight DE.

Numina (?) was enough.

Of course, the sad thing is, since your contact has offered it to you,
it now counts as one of the two storylines you can have running at a
time. Either you clear it out now, or you'll end up having to clear
it out later when it's all blue or green or grey con to clear the
space on your arc slate.

Offered doesn't equal accepted.

Contacts offer me simultaneous click missions all the time, I don't
accept them unless it's one of the ones that doesn't tell you it's
simultaneous till after you take it.

Almost level 31, still have a level 22 mission in perez that was one of
the stealth simultaneous ones.

For *story arcs*, it does, as far as I know. Having a story arc
mission *available* counts as having a story arc.

I was in my late 30s and not getting any story arcs at all until I
cleaned out a bunch of old ones, many of which I had never taken the
first mission of. Some of them I wasn't even *offered* when they were
available because I still had earlier ones jamming my queue. But it
still wouldn't give me storylines my own level until I'd cleaned out
enough of them.

Offered, not accepted.

I go by that contact occasionally, and she still has the 1st part of the
arc in her options, so I ignore her and go find something else to beat
upon.

I'm running the Envoy arc, and that's it. No other clues are showing up in
my windows, so I'm safe (?) for now.

<SNIP>

Just went on this mission on test after removing the (stupid) Cobra
Strike from my build with the free respec.

I was able to get off at least 5 of each attacks of Thunder Kick,
Storm Kick, Dragon's Tail, Eagle's Claw, and Air Superiority on him
(lvl 36 purple this time on test).

I hit Dull Pain once somewhere in that stuff

I had only the 3 each of 1st level of damage, shield, and accuracy
insp, and 2 each of health/endurance 2nd level and 1 each of
health/endurance 1st level.

I actualy got him on his back twice, and down half on his health.

Then.

These little green globes came out of the ground, temporarily
surrounded him, and he stood there for a second.

He then proceeded to do some sort of tap or marimba dance on me, and
my health went down faster than the stocks on October 29th, 1929.

So.

Anyone on Protector want to go through the last 4 missions of these
with me?

The main thing is, that it is really nice that the devs have put
these tests on us, if not to show our limits, but to show us that
there are things out there that will bump us in the night.
